A Community Club
for Young People
- Sunday evenings,
once a fortnight
The Tandridge
Youth Canoe Polo
league is open to
juniors age 10 and
over. It’s run by
volunteers to give
young people
somewhere to go
to try something
new with their
friends and make
new friendships
too.
We have space
in January 2025,
when beginners
can come for
a trial session - there’s no
requirement for previous experience.
Here’s what some of our members say:
“I look forward to polo sessions every fortnight - it’s
the only sport I do and I love it!”
“I’ve made new friends and feel a lot more confident
in my physical ability”
“I really enjoyed playing canoe polo on the lake at
Aqua Sports over the summer months - it was great
playing outside over the summer and thanks so
much to all the volunteers for making it happen”
“I’ve never really enjoyed other sports, but my
achievements in canoe polo have led me to try other
water sports including paddle boarding, open water
kayaking and wild swimming”
“I was given the opportunity to take part in the S E
Region Youth League in Bedford - it was a brilliant
experience”
“My confidence and skills have increased enormous-
ly and I love the competition. I am so grateful for the
encouragement and support given by our Club “
“I can’t believe how quickly I’ve improved. At the
start of the summer I didn’t have the confidence to
take part in local tournaments, but a few months
later I am participating in the South East Region
Women’s League”
“I loved the kayak trip up the river in Tonbridge”

CATERHAM, OXTED &
GODSTONE LIONS CLUB
The Club made a start on the Festive Social Season
with an American Evening. The supper comprised
of sweetcorn, burger and American cheesecake and
the entertainment was provided by “Double Duo”
– four woodwind musicians who played a selection
of well-known tunes by American composers, such
as Berlin, Sondheim, Porter and Gershwin. There
was the obligatory raffle and over 60 people were
present in the imaginatively decorated hall. The
evening raised a welcome £1,100 for our Charities
Account.
The Father Christmas Float ran to a reduced
Schedule, with collections at Morrisons in Oxted
and Church Walk in Caterham, delighting the
youngsters with the twinkling sleigh and a jolly
Father Christmas in attendance. The sleigh
also toured Godstone calling door to door – a
tradition dating back over 30 years with people
remembering it from their childhood and bringing
out their own youngsters, often wrapped in robes
straight out of bathtime, to have a word with Santa!
The seasonal entertainment also included a visit to
the local theatre to see “Seasons Greetings” by Alan
Ayckbourn and a Festive Meal at the Bletchingley
Arms, which took the place of the December
Business Meeting.
Members made a contribution to the Club’s Charity
Account for Lions’ SightSavers, in lieu of sending
Christmas Cards to each other. We also supported
Caterham Food Bank to enable extra goodies to be
provided over the festive period.
We’re looking forward to further fun, fundraising
and fellowship in 2025. If you would like to know
more about your local Lions Club, the person to
speak to is Lion Tony, on 01883 741809 – he would
be delighted to chat to you.
