Oxted’s most eccentric and beloved charity event,
the Oxted Pram Race, returns on Sunday 22 June
2025, promising an afternoon of laughter, creativity,
and community spirit. Since its inception in 1977,
this annual race has become a cornerstone of
local culture, blending spirited competition with
fundraising for local causes and a massive soaking
for everyone involved!
The race kicks off at 3pm from Master Park, where
teams—dressed in imaginative costumes—embark
on a two-thirds of a mile journey to The Bell in Old
Oxted High Street. Along the route, participants stop
at seven licensed venues, enjoying a quick
drink at each. Spectators add to the festive
atmosphere with water pistols and cheers,
making it great fun for all ages.
Over the years, the Pram Race has evolved,
introducing a popular Kids Category to
encourage family participation. Despite
its growth, the event has retained its
community-focused ethos, thanks to the
efforts of the Oxted Rotary Club and local
volunteers. Funds raised support various
local charities, this year including Matthew’s
Friends, a Lingfield-based charity aiding
those with drug-resistant epilepsy.
Teams can still register online at
www.oxtedpramrace.co.uk, with entry fees set at £20
per adult and £10 per youth. Prizes are awarded for
categories such as Best Pram, Best Fancy Dress, and
fastest teams across different age groups.
Whether you’re racing, cheering from the sidelines,
or volunteering, the Oxted Pram Race offers a
unique blend of fun and philanthropy. Join the
festivities, and be part of this cherished if slightly
soggy local tradition.
