Singing Party with David Cable
I live in Post Office Row, Limpsfield Chart and sing with the Rock
Choir. Along with 3 or 4 of my singing friends I have put on
Singing Parties over the last 10 years which are free but raise
money for Charity. These are great afternoons where the event
is split up by a performance of my singing friends coupled with
a singalong for all. Come along on Saturday 5th July so you can
listen and sing your hearts out with us. This year my chosen charity
is MND being absolutely inspired by the efforts of Rob Burrow
and Kevin Sinfield amongst many others. Please come along and
enjoy the fun. For further details and song sheets give me a call on
01883 339781 or email me at rcable@btinternet.com
News from the Lions
The Lions Clubs’ International year ends in July when there is
an International Convention, this year in Florida, where the new
International President will be sworn in along with thousands
of District Governors from more than 150 countries. Naturally
COGs Lions are a very small ‘cog’ in the international wheel – pun
absolutely intended... There are eight District Governors in the UK,
which is known as District 105. Hopefully all of them will be going
to Florida for the event.
Caterham, Oxted & Godstone Lions Club will therefore have a new
President from July, Lion Rita Reissland, who will be following in
the footsteps of her late husband Ken who held the office in 2011-
2012.
Another successful Trivia Quiz Night was held in March –if you
want to come along to the White Hart Barn in Godstone for
another, you need to hurry - June 14th is nearly sold out and then
there’s September 27th – ring Lion Tony on 01883 335945
The Club agreed to be part of Godstone Parish Council’s VE Day
Celebration on The Green on Saturday 3rd May. Our original,
prime location outside The Bounty (Godstone’s Scout HQ)
proved impossible as the cold gusting wind threatened to send
our gazebo into orbit, so operations were moved to the Sports
Pavilion, the only other source of electricity on The Green. This was
not really the right place for the sale of candy floss and popcorn
(neither of which were available 80 years ago, of course!). There
were numerous stalls, musical entertainers Oxted Silver Band and
a Punch & Judy Show. Godstone Villagers are a stoic crowd and
picnicked enthusiastically – surely everyone of them hoping that
the August Bank Holiday Fete day would provide more sunshine
and less wind. See you there....
