Wreaths Laid Across
Oxted to Mark VE Day
Anniversary
Veterans, Parish Councillors and clergy
gathered with local residents at three war
memorials across the Oxted area to mark the
80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.
Organised by the Oxted & District Branch of
the Royal British Legion, in partnership with the
Parish Council, wreath-laying services took place
at the War Memorials in Oxted, Old Oxted and
Hurst Green. Members of the Women’s Section
Branch also took part in the Oxted ceremony.
Rob Cogan, Chairman of the Oxted & District
Branch of the Royal British Legion Branch,
expressed thanks to all who made the
Ceremonies of Remembrance possible. “It is
important to remember the sacrifices made by
the wartime generation, which enable us all to
live today in peace and freedom,” he said.
Tree Planting
in Caterham
Commemorates
VE and VJ Day
Councillor Sue Farr, Chair of the Parish Council,
led a commemorative tree planting in Queens
Park, Caterham, attended by local residents,
councillors and members of the Royal British
Legion. Two trees were planted, to represent
both Victory in Europe (VE) Day and Victory over
Japan (VJ) Day.
“This is a lasting tribute to the bravery and
sacrifice of those who served during the Second
World War,” said Cllr Farr, emphasising the
importance of keeping these memories alive for
future generations.
