Prams, Pizzas & Punchlines –
Oxted Style!
Well, May was good fun wasn’t it! We were so lucky with the weather
for our VE Day / Surrey Day celebrations, and had a great turn out for
all the local events, including some brilliant live music from our talented
local bands, choirs, musicians and singers, classic car parade and the St
Mary’s School May Fayre.
If you were a little star-struck from Romesh Ranganathan’s surprise
appearances, you’re not alone. Huge thanks to Sean Coughlan of
Coughlans Bakery for luring co-owner Romesh into the local limelight
– not once, but twice! His “quick visit” to sell pastries quickly turned
into a full-on meet-and-greet with half of Surrey. He didn’t even make
it behind the counter, but posed for photos, filmed shout-outs, and
stayed utterly deadpan throughout. Top bloke – no diva vibes, just
charm, patience, and excellent brows.
Then came Romesh & Friends’ Coffee & Comedy Night on Friday 16
May. Just 50 lucky souls got to laugh their socks off with Romesh, Tom
Davis, Limahl Germain and Chantel Nash in an up-close evening of
hilarity – all raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust and CALM.
So can we top May? Absolutely – because it’s PRAM RACE TIME!
Yes, the glorious annual tradition returns on Sunday 22 June – and
you’d better brace yourself for water fights, beer spills, and truly
questionable costume choices. The fancy dress race starts at 3pm from
Master Park up to Old Oxted, with fun flowing both before and after
(along with the pints). Bring your suncream, waterproofs, and sense of
humour.
