On Thursday 3
October, Tandridge
District Council
hosted a glittering
award ceremony
at Lingfield Park
Resort to announce
the winners of the
inaugural Tandridge
Business Awards.
Launched in May 2024, the awards attracted over
120 entries showcasing the district’s businesses.
The winners were drawn from an impressive array
of high calibre entries with finalists announced on 2
September.
The
ceremony
was
compered
by Sir
Richard
Stilgoe,
founder
of the
Orpheus
Centre
in Godstone, a charity and college where young
disabled people use the arts to prepare for
independent living.
Councillor Catherine Sayer, Leader of the Council,
said: “The evening was a fantastic celebration of
the diverse businesses we are lucky to have in our
district. I’d especially like to thank all the sponsors
whose generosity made these awards possible. Their
contribution of resources, time and expertise in
supporting the judging process has been wonderful.
They have encouraged and inspired applicants and
our teams across the Council and it feels like it’s time
to say ‘Tandridge is here’.”

Official opening of St
Mary’s Community Pool
On Friday 27th September, in the pouring rain, a
celebration was held to mark the official opening of
St Mary’s Community pool. Many of the supporters
who had helped the project reach completion
were there as the head girl Nina Son cut a ribbon
and head boy Freddie Mason sounded the hooter
to set the Sports Captains off on a novelty swim
relay. Executive Headteacher Mrs Sarah Lewis said
“ I am so grateful to all the parents and children
who helped us by running sponsored events;
to Your Fund Surrey, Oxted Parish Council and
Tandridge District Council for their grants; to our
surveyors McConvilles, our contractors Cresta, and
the amazing premises team at the school who
coordinated
everything.
We now
have a pool
of which
we can be
proud, and
which will be
enjoyed by
generations
to come!”
The current swim season is coming to an end, and
a plan for the season starting in April 2025 is under
way. The school is interested in hearing from Swim
schools and providers interested in blocking spaces
for community access. Please email
