From Glastonbury to Hurst Green for Blondie drummer Clem Burke!
A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Clem Burke is a true American rock legend, having played drums for US giants Blondie since 1975. Away from his time with Debbie Harry and co, which included an appearance on the Pyramid Stage at this year’s Glastonbury, Burke also plays drums for US rock band The Split Squad, who are coming to Hurst Green Community Centre on Sunday 29th October as part of a short UK tour.
Founded in 2011, The Split Squad is a true rock ‘n’ roll supergroup. As well as Burke, they boast guitarist Kurt Bloch (Filthy Friends, The Young Fresh Fellows); Keith Streng (The Fleshtones); Michael Giblin (Parallax Project); and Josh Kantor, who during the summer months plays the organ at world famous baseball ground Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.
The band has released two albums of their own music and have gained quite the reputation for their full-on, loud, frenetic live shows. An appearance earlier this year at the iconic Cavern Club in Liverpool was described by Janet Harding of New Sound Generation Music Magazine as “Blistering, hot, sizzling, and the best rock ‘n’ roll I’ve witnessed!”
And if all that wasn’t enough, the evening will be opened with two solo sets from very special guests Chris Stamey (The dBs, Alex Chilton, Big Star’s Third) and Johnny Leitera (Tuff Sunshine).
The opportunity to see musicians of this calibre, and fame, in a small town, intimate setting, with a capacity of fewer than 200 people, is one not to be missed!
The Split Squad play Hurst Green Community Centre on Sunday 29th October.
