Beyond Surrey Day, May is
always a lovely time to enjoy
Limpsfield. With two bank
holidays and half term, it’s a
great chance to explore the
area. The cricket season is in
full swing, the countryside is
bursting into colour, Titsey
Place & Gardens is back
open for the summer, One
World Gardens takes place
and, weather permitting,
local pub gardens –
including The Bull Inn and
those on Limpsfield Chart –
will be busy and buzzing!
May is an important month for nature around Limpsfield:
•
No Mow May runs all month – consider leaving parts of your
garden uncut to encourage wildflowers and help pollinators.
•
Swallows and swifts return – have you spotted the bird boxes and
swift boxes in St Peter’s Churchyard, St Andrew’s, at the Grange
School and at The Carpenter’s Arms? They were made by the
fabulous Men in Sheds at The Woodhouse Centre.
•
World Bee Day takes place on 20 May. What can you do in your
own gardens to help the bees survive and thrive? Pop up a bee
hotel; plant pollinator friendly flowers. Limpsfield in Bloom will be
out and about, to create B Lines from the bottom to the top of the
village; planting some colourful flowers for this year’s In Bloom
which is all about the Bees!
•
Children’s Gardening Week begins on 24 May (half term), offering a
great opportunity for nature walks and fun biodiversity projects
•
One World Gardens Open Day – 5 gardens around Limpsfield open
- 26 May (BH Monday). Tickets from Memorial Stores
Visit the Biodiversity Corner at limpsfieldsurrey.com for spotter sheets,
