Residents of Limpsfield Parish should now have
received the latest Parish Council newsletter,
delivered by hand by a dedicated team of
volunteers. It offers updates on the Council’s work
over the past year.
A reminder that the Annual Parish Meeting will
take place on Thursday 8th May at 7.30pm at
St Andrew’s Village Hall, Limpsfield Chart. Open
to all residents and businesses in the parish, the
meeting is an excellent opportunity to learn more
about the Council’s activities, meet the councillors,
raise local concerns, and connect with community
groups. Those wishing to ask specific questions are
encouraged to contact the Parish Clerk in advance
via clerk@limpsfield.org.
We will hear from Cllr Catherine Sayer, leader of
Tandridge District Council about the reorganisation
of local government, as well as updates on the
National Trust / Friends of Limpsfield Common.
Agenda on the LPC website and social media.
What’s happening with local government
reorganisation?
The government’s aim is to streamline local
governance in England by replacing the current two-
tier system with unitary authorities serving at least
500,000 residents.
In Surrey, this
could mean the
dissolution of the
County Council
and its 11 district
and borough
councils, including
Tandridge,
potentially being
replaced by two
or three new
authorities. While
Parish Councils
like Limpsfield’s
are expected to
remain in place,
they may see some District-level responsibilities
passed down, potentially expanding their role in
community matters. The outcome of these proposals
is yet to be confirmed.
Local news highlights:
The tale of Limpsfield’s stolen horse trough caught
the attention of BBC Surrey and BBC South East,
with features on radio and online. The Parish Council
is now commissioning a stonemason to create a
replica, complete with original inscriptions, while
holding out hope the original may still reappear.
On Footpath 71 at Grub Street, Limpsfield Common,
a deteriorating stile has been replaced with a
more accessible kissing gate, thanks to Andy from
Conservation & Access, making the area easier to
enjoy for all walkers.
Despite the current dry weather, the Brook Field
path from Granville Road to Detillens, an extension
of the Limpsfield Way, became boggy during recent
rains. The Council
thanks Evergreen
Gardening and
Will Bistram for
resurfacing the
path, making it
more accessible.
Detillens Lane
Speedwatch
recently marked its
tenth anniversary.
The dedicated
volunteers, led
by John Nathan,
continue their work
in all weathers to
improve road safety in the area.
In support of local biodiversity, the Council has
donated swift boxes to Limpsfield Grange School, St
Andrew’s, and the Carpenters Arms, with hopes of
attracting nesting birds. St Peter’s Church has also
installed swift and other bird boxes.
Finally, the Parish Council has acquired the Grade
II listed K6 phone box opposite St Peter’s Church,
preserving another piece of the parish’s heritage.
