Homemade, Handcrafted, Home Produced
Oxted Country Market
It was every Thursday 9.30 to 11.30
– our motto: Homemade, handcrafted, Home produced –
Although we haven’t been able to run our market in the Red Cross Hall in Oxted since the first lockdown last March, the market producers have continued to serve the community in several ways.
As providers of an essential food service, the cooks and several helpers have been delivering food to those who need it. This service has meant that each customer has a phone call at least once a week for a chat about how they are and letting them know what food is available. In this way, as well as being a help for their well-being, they can still access good, wholesome, homecooked meals, prepared under strict hygiene guidelines – delivered to their door, with a menu for what will be available for the following week. We had an exceptional demand over the Christmas period and had many happy customers.
Meanwhile, the Facebook and Instagram pages have kept everyone in touch with ideas to keep busy with crafts, or in the garden, or just general ‘chatter’. We were so sorry that we have had to postpone our popular craft workshops for the time being, but we have started to post some short craft video tutorials – and watch this space because the workshops will return one day!
We have been delivering food all round Oxted and the surrounding area, even as far as South Godstone. We don’t yet know when we will be able to resume normal service at the Red Cross Hall but we will continue to do as much as possible to support those who need us. All the market contributors and helpers are looking forward to getting back together under one roof, and to relish the buzz and camaraderie that exists during the market.
You can get a list of available food by emailing oxtedcm@outlook.com and watch the Facebook page Oxted Country Market, or Instagram oxtedmarket or even Twitter @OxtedMarket for more news and ideas.
